As far as the whole sub genre of Blackened Punk goes I've found myself being a staunch critic of it. Personally I think 90% of it sucks. Most of the bands wish they were Blackened Thrash but don't have the talent. But once in a great while I'll hear a band that fits the whole Blackened Punk sound perfectly. Belgium's SHEWOLFF is one of those bands. 

Starting out a few years ago SHEWOLFF was a solo project by singer / guitarist K. Von Shewolff. Afterwards it became a three-piece band with Jeffrey Andreka on bass and Liam Wyns on drums. So musically this trio are all into a more Punk version of HELLHAMMER meets G.G. ALLIN. Which is a given since the HELLHAMMER demos, the first BATHORY album and of course VENOM were favorites by people who were really into Punk & Hardcore back in the day. And of cause we liked G.G. ALLIN.

On here songs like "Fantastik Fukk", the title cut and opener "Eternal Night" are cool as fuck. But then again this whole six song release is a fucking winner in my book. But I wanna hear more by this band. A great start here is my verdict.

I said this a few weeks ago that Poland has become the leading nation when it comes to extreme metal. And here we go again. This band, who don't want to expose themselves, are pure blackened thrash/blackened punk/blackened fuckin hate music. After some searching I found out that in studio HATE THEM ALL are a two piece act. One guy is responsible for guitar and vocals while the second member takes on the drum work.


Pure fuckin hate is what HATE THEM ALL is about. Musically the twelve cuts on here are lo-fi raw recordings which the band is very proud of mentioning in the promo info. This is their second full length since starting out in 2010. Makes ya wonder what they put out prior to this. By the way that would be a full length, a bunch of split releases and a few demos. Filthy guttural vocals sung in Polish with concussive riffs from the past as an influence.

OK your band name is SATAN WORSHIP and your album is titled I'm the Devil. Do I really need to say more? Alright I guess I'll have to. Here we have a band which is a joint German/Brazilian project by Marc Reign (the latest drummer of MORGOTH from Germany) and two guys from the Brazilian band SODOMIZER (bassist/vocalist Leatherface and guitarist Max The Nekromancer.)


Musically this is basically blackened punk/thrash with ten cuts spanning thirty five minutes of satanic fueled hate, speed and metal. On the surface I just wanna say OK we get it, you like VENOM and HELLHAMMER and move on. But after a bunch of listens I can say that there's a lot of coolness about I'm the Devil.


For starters the sound on here is lo fi as if it could've come out some thirty years ago. I love the feel of the soloing, a total throwback to the past. Leatherface's vocals are also gruff, low in the mix and demonic sounding. The riffs are cool as fuck, simple yet have that punk feeling to em. Hey if ya wanna sound like a sick old wannabe VENOM band then I'll give ya a fuckin HAIL!

ALL HELL - The Grave Alchemist review

The tag line for this band is blackened thrash but I wouldn't really hold em to that since they are far more. ALL HELL hails from Asheville, North Carolina, basically west of where I reside in the state. I won't go into what I think of Asheville but I first learned about this three piece act in 2016 with their The Red Sect CD which came out in the fall of 2015. This latest release, The Grave Alchemist, is their third full length and a great step forward from The Red Sect. On here they've expanded their blackened palete.

ALL HELL are not blackened thrash in the traditional way like DESTRUCTION, SABBAT or AURA NOIR. Their sound is somewhere between early SKELETONWITCH, MIDNIGHT (especially on "Vampiric Lust") and HOT GRAVES. They lean more to the punk side. That's for the most part but then they'll drop down into some SATYRICON worship on "I Am The Mist" or BATHORY influence on "The Castle". So if you are familiar with their previous work then you'll appreciate how they have expanded their sound.

Obviously one of the things I like about this band, other than the compositions, is guitarist Jacob Curwen's vocals. He's got that viper rasp going for most of this but once in a while he'll toss in a gutteral growl. You need that for this style of extreme. This is a concept album by the way with Gothic overtones minus the goth aspect. All in all this is a great release now hopefully I can get out to see em when they play locally.
