GALGEBERG - Cerberus review

GALGEBERG - Cerberus

Aftermath Music

So last year (aka 2024) two of my favorite releases were from Swedish Death Metal bands incorporating some old school Hardcore into their sound. Now sure it was called Crust and I do have plenty of anti - revisionist history truth for that term. But for now I'll leave it be. Those two albums I'm speaking of are CRAWL's Altar of Disgust and FERAL's To Usurp The Thrones. Great stuff if you're into the whole Death Metal meets Hardcore sound.

Which brings us to this band here. This is the debut full length by a Norwegian three piece act who are doing that same sound and for 2025 they're winners in my book. Also once I saw who was in GALGEBERG then what was not to like. GALGEBERG started out in 2022 from Oslo, Norway and is basically BLOOD TSUNAMI doing Death Punk. You've got Peter Vegem on guitars & lead vocals, Bard Eithun on drums (also formerly of EMPEROR) and Peter Bosse Bostrom on bass & backing vocals. And for you ignorant people BLOOD TSUNAMI is a great Norwegian Thrash band that I've been a fan of.

Musically it's more Punk Fuckin Rock infused with that crunchy Boss HM2 early Stockholm DM sound. The songs on here, just six of em, are all about intensity which will kick your fucking ass. Vegem is a vicious vocalist and can throw down some cool dive bomb DM leads as well as crushing riff packages. Bard Eithun has always been one of the greatest drummers in Norway. And Bosse was a fuckin killer bass playing maniac in BLOOD TSUNAMI and on here he repeats it.

This album rules from start to finish. It'll blow your fuckin mind because the song writing goes beyond the whole simple Death Metal meets Punk idea. GALGEBERG have taken the idea to a better level and still keep it seething with aggro filth, hate and punishment. Fuck yeah GALGEBERG are amazing.
