ENGORGEMENT -They Rot Beneath Our Floor

Just for the record I became a fan of the Comatose Music label because a local North Carolina Death Metal band, BLOODSOAKED, had all of their releases out on it. Comatose Music is also a label from North Carolina. Add to that they're are the purveyors of pretty much the best there is when it comes to truly extreme Brutal Death Metal. 

Now as far as my tastes go I like Brutal Death Metal when the sound is so repulsive and inhumane that it makes me smile in a truly sadistic manner. Seriously when the music is playing and I'm not feeling a sinister grin come around then the band ain't good enough. I don't listen to Brutal Death Metal for the enjoyment. I listen to it so to judge how offensive it is towards other human beings. And then I share it just to piss people off. It's like farting in an elevator but with music. 

So what we have here is the second full length by this English four piece Brutal Death Metal act. If you're a fan of this style of music then you've got a winner here. ENGORGEMENT on here pretty much encapsulates the greatness or nastiness of the sub genre. Let's start with the vocals by Stu Hine. This guy does the whole pig squiling, bestial vocals style to the hilt. At this moment in time I think he's the fuckin best. 

Of course the music has to have some proneness to it. ENGORGEMENT do a great job with a variety of riff signatures be they straight up Death Metal, some Death Doom, Grind and obviously the BDM. So shocker yeah this is actually a cool album to listen to even though it's generally offensive to 99.9% of the human race. I also props to the drum work. It's no punk rock guy banging on Tupperware.

In the end I can't help but wonder if this band started recording this release early in the day. Then stopped for tea in the afternoon like a lot of English people do traditionally. and then continued to record afterwards. I have to laugh at that especially because it reminds me of a friend who I served with in the military many years ago. Whenever the subject of irony would arise he would exclaim in a faux British accent "Well Let Me Slit My Wrists"!

So there you go. This is a damm good album and if you're a BDM fan it's a must have. I know it's only January but this release automatically rates a position as one of the best Death Metal releases of 2026 easily because I always have one represented. Nuff Said!

Well obviously anyone who reads this blog will not be shocked that not only do I know who they are but I own their two previous releases. VULVECTOMY are a four piece Brootal Death Metal band from Italy. Their second and third full lengths, the ones I got, came out on Sevared Records years ago. Now this full length, their fourth, is out on Comatose Music which is a label from my home state. They also specialize in lo-fi, heavy as fuck, filthy brootal sounding metal. 

Obviously VULVECTOMY has found a new home since being silent for the past twelve years. The only difference over time has been a switch on drums with Marco Coghe (from DEVANGELIC) taking charge. No more drum machine shit. The new guy is damm good and adds a better dynamic to the band's sound / style. Guitarist Mario Di Giambattista is also in DEVANGELIC. 

Musically this is their best album overall. Instead of treading along as just another BDM band. VULVECTOMY now come across as a Death Metal band which is slow, trudging and heavy as fuck with a mutated beast from some abandoned mine-shaft on vocals. Speaking of which Diego Fanelli's vocals are way better on here. No full blown pig squealing this time around although he comes very close. Giorgio Cavaliere's bass sound still seems buried in the mix. But Mario Di Giambattista's guitar riffs are fuckin incredible. 

Years ago VULVECTOMY were like a little fish swimming in a huge Brootal Death Metal pond dominated by sick fucking US bands. With this album I'm not gonna say they're the shark eating everything in sight. But I will say this is damm good. The album artwork might be tame as far as what they put out in the past. But their song titles and lyrics are still sick as fuck which would make CARCASS blush and MORTICIAN proud.

I've been a fan of this label ever since they gave Raleigh's own one man death metal act, BLOODSOAKED, a chance years ago. Actually they gave em a couple of chances and I've got the releases to prove it. But be that as it may this label has put out a bunch of releases that I like as well as own. Basically they're into releasing really Brutal Death Metal and Grindcore. But it's all in the sick fuckin shit mode which yeah I'm a fan of.

Anyways this four song EP by SERMON OF MOCKERY came my way as the holy grail of brutal DM (according to the PR info) as well as having a wrestling reference. The latter would be Chris Benoit. But musically this is your basic early CANNIBAL CORPSE on steroids. Is it good? Well yeah I like it enough. 

Vocalist Johnny Paoline, also of MORTAL DECAY, is a monster on here with his hellish screams, grunts and guttural singing style. Guitarist Oleh Matiytsiv's style is a mix of tech death and grind rhythms. Dmytro Semkiv lays down some thick sounding bass lines. And finally there's Lev Kurgansky's drum work which is phenomenal. Four songs worth of filth and damm good.

Why yes I am a Comatose Music fan and I still wear my BLOODSOAKED "Brutally Butchered" shirt proudly. I even wear it to work on days when I have to cut the meat. But anyways what we have here is a Four Way split compilation from some bands who know what Brootal Death Metal is really all about. Some of em are even alumni of the label.

Starting off this bevy of sickness we have KILL EVERYTHING. They're a four piece BDM act from the Dallas / Fort Worth area of Texas. They've also got a previous full length out on this label. Musically their three cuts on here are straight up slow dirge sounding death metal. The vocals give it a real sick twist. They're not pig squeals or satanic frog sounds. So I'm going with feral hog vocals.

Next up, since I survived that last one, it's NECROTICGOREBEAST who are a four piece goregrind act from Canada. I'm familiar with em as well. Musically it's standard fair with trudging guitars that come across like artillery strikes. The vocals are bestial albeit of a still unidentified feral animal that lurks in the Great White North. These fiends contribute three cuts as well.

By the way these guys are also Comatose Music alum and I highly recommend their two previous albums from the label. I'm speaking of their 2019 self titled debut and the Human Deviance Galore full length from last year. Yeah this is some of the best modern day goregrind you'll find today.

So third on the list is VIRULENT EXCISION who are a five piece act who delve in simple crushing death metal not so far removed from MORTICIAN. The key phrase here is "far removed" since this band has an actual drummer. They're only allowed two cuts on here. 

And last on this comp is the almighty GOREPOT who hail from Taiwan and have been around longer then every other band on this compilation. Yes GOREPOT are legendary. Even the Chi-Com gov't in the mainland hates em. They deserve four cuts on here because they're funny as well as psychotic. Their tracks include sound-bites galore and their sound is sorta experimental avant-grind which is brootal as well as total engrossing. 

As always when it comes to split releases I treat em like wrestling bouts. And in this fatal brootal four way it's GOREPOT and NECROTICGOREBEAST as the last two contenders. Who wins? Ah this was a tough one but it's fuckin NECROTICGOREBEAST. And oh yeah you're a winner if you get this release. Nuff Said.

So what would inspire two UK metal musicians to create music inspired by the likes of the 1972 classic John Boorman movie Deliverance. Yeah their album title doesn't mention it plus their motto "What happens in the shack, stays in the shack" is also a tribute to another cinema classic. But the album's intro is the famous soundbite of Deliverance's butt rape in the woods scene. It's the role that actor Ned Beatty (who passed away in June 2021 at the age of 83) is infamous for. Although I believe throughout his long film career he tried to move on from that role.

There's more Deliverance movie soundbites as well as some I'm not familiar with. The title cut is a soundbite which follows the same theme as in butt rape in the woods or wooden shack. Now if you haven't guessed it yet SLOB are a brutal death metal act. And of course Comatose Music is the perfect label for them since they do specialize in releasing the disturbing stuff. SLOB are a two piece act consisting of James Murphy on guitar, vocals and drum programming. Ross Honour is the acts other guitarist. 

Musically it's your basic brutal DM stuff on these tracks. Deep cavernous vocals with the pig squeals, yeah that's standard genre stuff. But I gotta say their riffs are kinda cool. They make the songs hold you in vise like grip. You've got the slow bludgeoning ones mixed with the spastic. This duo works well together and there's even a solo or two. As expected the drum programming sounds like someone beating on Tupperware but once again that's standard. 

Yeah as I always say I'm a sucker for this type of raw and sick death metal. It's the type of stuff you want to play for friends just to see their reactions. Of course while listening to Deepwoods Shack of Sodomy I'd had a huge grim. This stuff is just funny to me. Plus it was around 1 AM in the morning and I was making homemade chicken soup. If you like it brutal then here you go.

It's the return of reviewing band videos. Most blogs/websites like to say "Exclusive Premiere" of some band's video as if they're the only ones who get it sent to them. Bullshit! Usually I just re-post em on my Facebook page to let friends watch em and laugh. But I figured hey why not give em a chance here at SCUMFEAST METAL 666. So shall we begin?


ABORTED FETUS - Blinded by the Flame video

The Skinny: 

What have here is some collusion between Russia's ABORTED FETUS and the American record label Comatose Music. Obviously there needs to be an investigation into this. Well maybe not, this is the official video for "Blinded by the Flame," a track from the band's fifth full length The Art of Violent Torture. ABORTED FETUS call their signature style of death metal Ural Massive Brutality so let's see what's up.




Verdict: Rant

Ya know that feeling you get when you like a band's music but then you see them and you're like "Oh?" That's the way I look at this. Musically they've got a great albeit typical brutal DM sound. The medieval imagery spots are fine but it's their vocalist or better yet his actions which bother me. I hate, no I despise the whole baseball cap worn backwards, groove metal meets thug culture identity crap. This guy jumps around like he's got bees in his shorts. Give me a break.


GHOST BATH - Seraphic video

The Skinny:

Depending on who use listen to GHOST BATH are A) an atmospheric black metal band from North Dakota focused on depression, tragedy, purgatory, and earthly wonders. Or B) an annoying emo band using black metal aesthetics in order to impress losers at hipster sites, faking being from China and should probably die. So let's go to the video, which is a song from their latest release Starmourner.



Verdict: Rant

The term GHOST BATH refers to the act of committing suicide by submerging in a body of water. I think this band should consider it. Die hipster die! Actually here's a better video on this band.

BEASTMAKER - Nature of the Damned video

The Skinny:

BEASTMAKER are a three piece stoner rock act from California. They're fairly new, starting out in 2014, but have two full lengths under their belts. Musically they worship at the altar of Ozzy era SABBATH for the most part, go figure. I don't know if they're like ORCHID who once said they never heard of BLACK SABBATH or listened to them. Be that as it may this song is off of their 2017 release Inside the Skull out on Rise Above Records.




Verdict: Rant

OK visually it's typical band playing with lights flashing but musically this song kinda blows. I mean it's really boring as far as this genre goes. Maybe if you're a hipster who thinks everything is new than yeah you'd like it. But for me there's just so much blatant SABBATH or PENTAGRAM worshiping / copycats you can take without wanting to scream "POSUERS"! 

Which brings me to a second point. Unless you're into the evilness of the underground then you wouldn't know there's a huge backlash against bands from California calling themselves doom, stoner rock and especially black metal. The case against em is that they're all fake phony hipsters. I don't fully agree with the term "All" but I do believe there are a significant number of people out there who are jumping onto trends knowing that if they're more indie rock than true metal then they will court critical claim to fame by the hipsters in the music media. 



INSANITY - Down video

The Skinny:

INSANITY are supposedly a hardcore band from Switzerland. For this video they enlisted some female roller derby teams to be filmed screwing around on the rink. 
Hardcore and Roller Derby Collide in INSANITY's Action Packed Video for "Down". This track is from the band's Toss a Coin album which is out on Bastardized Recordings. I'm not very excited but I'll watch.





Verdict: Rant

Well the music doesn't sound like hardcore at all. In fact it sounds like a bunch of metalcore pussies. Visually I'm guessing the derby girls are beating up the band members which should be done because they suck. Honestly if you wanna hear a good song about Women's Roller Derby then check out KIFF's "Roller Girl".

Ya know when you collect music over a long time you tend to become devoted fans of certain labels simply because you know they won't disappoint. That's the way I look at North Carolina's own Comatose Music. I became aware of em a while back since they're the label which released all of our local one man death metal band's material. That would be BLOODSOAKED for all of you unknowing. So it was through picking up BLOODSOAKED stuff that I wondered what else this label had. So I learned that Comatose are the purveyors of truly brutal music and who doesn't like it brutal?

Case in point, here's the latest release by Texas Death Metal merchants DESECRATE THE FAITH. This is their second full length and it's a tight package of brutality. While bands of this genre have been trying to tweak the template in order to be progressive and appealing to a broader audience (ie: hipsters suffering with ADD), DESECRATE THE FAITH are no frills, straight up brutal DM. It's like the time some friends suckered me into going to a fancy Mexican restaurant. What a fuckin nightmare that was. I don't give a rat's ass about the fine decor, the fancy plates and plating, the total lack of napkins and no hot sauce on the table. Look I just want a big plate of food to devour and screw anything else. That's why I go to another place which is family run, plenty of food, decent prices and no fuckin frills. Unholy Infestation is all that, a heaping plate of brutal lo-fi riffage, gutteral monster vocals and jackhammer drumming. Yeah now this is what I want from a band of this genre.
