This is an artillery barrage of blast beats, relentless tremolo riffs plus a mixture of raspy, guttural and screamed vocals. Hmmmm, reminds me of early 1349 to the fuckin hilt. OK the band does slow things up for a nanosecond but for the most part it's just rip your head off fast black metal done the Norwegian way. But wait a minute these guys are English.
SKULLTHRONE are a four piece black metal act from London, England. The band originally was a two piece act from Poland featuring just their guitarist and drummer. That was back in 2006. Over the years, and a move to merry olde England, they grew in members finally settling on it's present line up here.
So yeah at first I was willing to right this up as basic 1349 worship but after multiple listens, and yes they were multiple, SKULLTHRONE are more than basic. Overall on the release you've got seven cuts all designated by numerals instead of song titles, just like the release title. The songs vary in length from short fuckin blackened blasts to cuts with some actual depth bookend between maniacal blasting. Those are the best cuts.
Also important to note is that when the band does slow things down the music moves into a thrash rhythm style. Hell I'd even say old hardcore as well. The guitarist and drummer control this band while the vocalist goes into imitation mode. Whether it's Ravn, Gaahl or Attila Csihar he's got em all down pat. When the vocalist, Khrul, does his own thing it's not so good. In the end this is still gonna be a poor man's interpretation of Norwegian black metal from the early 2000s.
