DEMONBITCH - Master of the Games review

DEMONBITCH - Master of the Games

Gates of Hell Records / Cruz del Sur Music

When I saw the name of the band my first thought was cool it's some new female fronted metal. OK I was really fucking wrong on that one. Instead what we have here is some complex out of the box sounding Power Metal with a vocalist who is unique sounding to say the least.

DEMONBITCH are a US five piece act hailing from Detroit, Michigan. The band has been around since 2011 and this is their second full length release. Now when it comes to the Power Metal genre I'm like sure I've got a collection of what someone better than me would call the classics. I have no problem with that since I'm not an aficionado / expert fan of the genre.

Normally I use to say I've listened to it and it's not my thing. But I believe this second full length by DEMONBITCH needs to be written about for two reasons. This is either great US Power Metal or I'm still a Power Metal novice and should just give up. Be that either point matters when I listen to this release I can't help but think of CIRITH UNGOL.

Not that DEMONBITCH sound anything like CIRITH UNGOL. It's just that you've got some really cool sounding music with a polarizing vocalist. Look Logon Saton is an amazing clean singing vocalist with an amazing range. He also lets you know every octave he can achieve throughout this release. What's really evil is that after hearing this five times in a row you actually like his eclectic singing style.

As far as the music goes well there's another break from standards which makes this release unique or insane. I believe the guitar work on here is absolutely insane. I mean there's a steady amount of NWOBHM and Speed Metal rhythm song structure style. But then the guitar soloing comes into play and you're sitting there listening and then freaking out at the six string blasts coming through your speakers.

In the end it's Yngwie meets MAIDEN meets Power Metal traditionalism meets that crazy band who had guitarists jumping around on trampolines on stage with a singer who's all over the fuckin place. Yeah this is insane and I like it.

TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH - Red Tide review

TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH - Red Tide

Interstellar Smoke Records

A while back a good friend and huge doom metal fanatic explained to me his thoughts on modern day stoner rock acts. His first point was that 99.9% of the new bands are going to sound like some past classic band of the genre. The second point he gave was that if the new band can put out a flawless performance than you can overlook the first point. In the case of this band from Detroit, Michigan my friend's point hold's true.

This is the second full length by TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH who've been around since 2017. After giving this a few listens I can tell you that yeah this is "pass the bong I think I'm Tony Iomni" style stoner rock. While the release's opener "Baphomet" did not make me enthusiastic it was what followed that won me over. Red Tide is a seven song forty five plus minute high. Obviously some moments are more buzz worthy then others. But yeah it's a must have if not just worthy of your stoner doom fandom and interest.

For example the second cut on here "Cherenkov Light" is blistering with SABBATH-ian indulgence courtesy of some heavy familiar riffage, clean yet eerie styled vocals and an oh so familiar song structure. Once you hear it you'll be like "crank this fucker up and turn on the strobe light". Too bad it wasn't the opener. and from that point onward this release flows along almost as if it was a concept album. There's plenty of head banging grooves, atmospheric breaks (for the wannabe hippies) and some interesting percussion choices which would make Bill Ward smile.

TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH is far from being the second (or is it the fourth) coming of excitement within this genre. They've got a handle on the whole 70's aesthetic of SABBATH without relying on stoner rock riffage 101. Look we all know the originators are gone. Their children are pretty much in the grave. The grandchildren are decent but turned the genre very generic. This is the grandchildren of SABBATH reminding us all how it use to be which is cool as fuck. Keep this band on your radar after you get this release.

SHITFUCKER - Sex with Dead Body review

SHITFUCKER - Sex with Dead Body

Hells Headbangers Records

So it's been a while since I've anything from Detroit, Michigan's SHITFUCKER. The last thing I have from them is a split 7"er they did with MIDNIGHT from a few years back. My history with them goes back a few years when they played a local club with MIDNIGHT.

I automatically liked their approach to scum punk metal. So afterwards I bought from them their full length debut Suck Cocks in Hell and a t-shirt with a cool virgin killers rip off look. The shirt is pictured below and speaking of looks ah yeah I got a lot of those from people who, even in extreme circles, kinda mistook it for something else.

But here we are with this trio's latest full length, their second. OK so from the title and cover photo it's obvious that these guys have not cleaned up their act. I can say the same for their music. With the exception of the crappy intro and outro the band delivers on nine cuts. What I'm expecting is scumfuck metal with some punk rock n roll touches. SHITFUCKER does it here.

For the most part on here SHITFUCKER sounds better than their debut. They incorporate more of a filthy blackened thrash approach. Of course my favorites by them tend to be the heavy punk rock n roll influenced cuts like "Leather Lady Lover" and "Skitzoid". But overall it turns out to be a great release by them.

MIDAS - The Demos review

MIDAS - The Demos

Dying Victims Productions

If you are a friend of the SFM666 Facebook page then you know this month I've been posting album pictures and videos of my 80's metal favorites. Hey why not since it was that particular decade when the genre literally exploded. You had incredible new bands who we still talk about today. You also had some 70's acts make incredible comebacks.

So it's no wonder so many new bands of this era look back to the 80's for inspiration. Which brings us to this band from Detroit, Michigan. MIDAS is a four piece act who live and breath 80's metal. They're the type of band you'd expect to see on stage at a Keep It True fest. They started out in 2018 and last year put out a demo and an EP. What we have here are those releases combined for I guess you could call it their album.

Musically overall this is a good mix of decent hard hitting as well as epic metal material. There's also a good touch of the melodic hard rock. Imagine playing THIN LIZZY and early IRON MAIDEN back to back. There's lots of great guitar lead work. The bass stands out well. Plus the vocals are not too far off from Paul Di'Anno's style but alas no heavy metal screams. Maybe they'll put out a real full length soon and take the world by storm.

ACID WITCH - Evil Sound Screamers review

ACID WITCH -  Evil Sound Screamers

Hells Headbangers Records

And I missed out on this one for Halloween this year? Damm You All To Fuckin HELL! Well that would be Hells Headbangers Records and yeah I was late to the costume doom and gloom party but hey I can still blast this during the christian holidays. Here we have the third full length by Detroit, Michigan's full on purveyors of filthy creepy doom.

ACID WITCH are the metal version of Halloween themes all the time acts like the surf and garage punk band genres except they hate people. I hate people to so that's why I like em and got on their hate train back in 2009 with their Witchtanic Hellucinations debut full length. After so many fuckin releases and wondering if SHITFUCKER members are cool enough to undergo a NUNSLAUGHTER type of Hallow-eve's frenzy, this one says hell yeah.

"Hardrock Halloween" is probaly the best cut on here since it leaves ACID WITCH and goes straight up sleazy SHITFUCKER. Be that as it may there are some doomy cuts available that tug on the line of doom filth. Lets have more Hammond organ to drive us in the hearse of hilarity. In between the the samples, which after ten listens actually sound funny, the crushing truth is that I'll see ya next year.
