POEMA ARCANVS - Stardust Solitude review

POEMA ARCANVS - Stardust Solitude

Transcending Obscurity Records

Like I always say, doing a music blog does not make you an expert. Actually it makes you a fan because every day you learn something new and exciting. Case in point here we have a long time death doom four piece act from Santiago, Chile. POEMA ARCANVS have been around since the late 90's. To their record they've released five full lengths prior to this latest one. Their last release, Transient Chronicles, came out in 2012. So there's a lot of new ground to cover.

Like some other Chilean doom metal acts I've heard in the past, POEMA ARCANVS also take recognizable influences from classic established acts in the UK/European side of the genre. One listen to this and you'll think MY DYING BRIDE minus the violins. Vocalist, Claudio Carrasco, has a decent baritone death metal vocal. But it's his clean vocals, sing/speak style, which really reminds you of MDB's Aaron Stainthorpe.

Next up when we delve into the music portion, which is eight songs running close to an hour in time, we find the beauty of this band. The songs on here have a good touch of heavy riffs matched with equal amounts of melodic passages. To put it mildly, POEMA ARCANVS have created their gothic death doom masterpiece. Yet this album is not for the care free genre fans. I'm talking about connoisseurs of this genre who will listen to this weeks, months and years onward.
