CIRITH UNGOL - Forever Black
Metal Blade Records
As far as this old band's history with me goes, musically I loved em. I thought their album covers were cool to look at, except for One Foot in Hell. As far as the much talked about vocals go yeah they were hard to handle. But worse they were out of sync with the music which made em harder to handle.
So here we are some 19 years since their last album, Paradise Lost, which was not up to snuff as far as their three previous releases were. Forever Black is far better than a lot of things this band has done in the past. Yeah I know you're shocked to read that line but bare with me.
CIRITH UNGOL started out in the late 70's and this album is a throwback to that era. A lot of the song structures on Forever Black are reminisant of 70's era PRIEST. The solos are a mix of Blackmore, Schenker and of course Tipton. And finally Tim Baker's vocals are in sync and cool as fuck.
