WOLFBASTARD - The Bastards Hammer review

WOLFBASTARD - The Bastards Hammer

Clobber Records

Blackened punk/hardcore has been around for quite a while now. You either consider it enjoyable or you blow it off as non essential. Personally I do like the sub genre and have a trove of releases by bands who take it to the hilt. Personally I like the whole raw filthy punk side of the blackened infused genre. There's too many bands to name here for that. But I will say if you're a fan of releases by Hell's Headbangers Records then you know what I'm talking about.

WOLFBASTARD, a three piece act from the UK, are on the other side of the aisle as far as blackened punk/hardcore goes. Their sound is cleaner. Their brand of metallic hardcore resembles that of TRAP THEM or even DISFEAR. Toss in some black metal and there you go. They have the three basics going for them. That being an onslaught of riffage, a rhythm section that steam roles through and a vocalist who barks out lyrics as if he were a human machine gun.

This is the third full length by WOLFBASTARD, who've been around now for a decade. I apologize for not getting into their first two albums. Now in all honesty sound wise there's nothing new here. But hey if you're looking for innovation with in this sub genre then you're a fuckin idiot. WOLFBASTARD's music is all about anger and hostility. I've never seen em live but I'd guess a slam pit erupts from the word go in their set.

In the end you always remember an ass kicking.
