MORTIFERUM - Altar of Decay review

MORTIFERUM - Altar of Decay

Self Released

While listening to the four song demo by this four piece act from Olympia, Washington my main thoughts are that COFFINWORM has risen from the grave. Sound wise you know by now what you're getting. A huge blackened beast made up of droning massive riffs, an avalanche of drums, cavernous vocals and a discordance of solos that surgically take you apart. It's one huge pile of black, death and doom metal crawling across the land consuming anything in it's wake. Next year some other metal media scribe will likely invoke the term "Lovecraftian" in their own description.

That last sentence is in reference to the fact that MORTIFERUM has already inked a deal with Profound Lore Records to re-release this on vinyl in January 2018 with a promise of a proper full length to come about a year from now. Gear up for that being an album of the year pick. But for now yes this rules even though MORTIFERUM are just one of many deathly creatures that inhabit the death doom swamp of metal.
