SEKKUSU - Satyromania review

SEKKUSU - Satyromania

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

From the shithole of Detroit, Michigan comes this new punk / metal three piece act SEKKUSU. Like almost all similar acts it's the guitarist that makes em metal. That's the case here since two of these guys (the drummer and the bass/vocalist) were once in a punk sludge outfit called HEDORAH. Anyways back in the 90's I saw a ton of bands trying their best to pull off the hybrid sound. Unfortunately the fan-bases for both styles never quite meshed. Thankfully those days are over (or are they?).

Musically this full length debut by SEKKUSU is part scum punk filth with plenty of metal influence. Some aspect part of this would fit closer to early Nordic hardcore or even some thrash like SOD. The release is bookend by some acoustic guitar strumming passages. Whoa is that supposed to be folk metal? At times the guitars come across like early BATHORY. Then again some riffs are borrowed from HELLHAMMER as well as early SLAYER. Plus the singer does take some liberty by adding a few Tom G. Warrior grunts. All in all it's not a bad release if you're into the sleazy side or maybe blackened punk.
