MIDNIGHT – Rebirth by Blasphemy review

MIDNIGHT – Rebirth by Blasphemy

Metal Blade Records

Well when Metal Blade dropped the "Rebirth by Blasphemy" 7"er last year and the band going on tour with ABBATH and OBITUARY. It was a forgone conclusion that MIDNIGHT was finally moving up to the top tier level of metal. You figure after fifteen years as an underground metal staple. A band (actually a one man recording act) who really pioneered the whole new wave of blackened speed metal would've jumped at the chance years ago.

From what I've learned, Athenar (yeah we all know who he really is) had offers before to sign with a major label but held out until now. I give the guy props for having some integrity as well as sticking to a tried and true sound that has had a slight progression over the years. Sure it's still VENOM 2.0 but I have to say I liked this one better than 2017's Sweet Death and Ecstasy.

MIDNIGHT's latest full length continues on a blackened speed metal path forged years ago and is now just pushing the full on true fuckin metal. Athenar, who was always good at coming up with solid riffs and fast song structures, has excelled as a full on cool song writer. Not that he wasn't before but on Rebirth by Blasphemy the man has gone full fuckin out.

Have I used the word "full" enough? Sure but listen to Athenar kick out some full on cool as fuck and reminiscent solos of the past. Check out how you hear MOTORHEAD and VENOM beat upon another for room only to be pushed aside by EXICTER. In the end this is a great album.
