GOATSKULLT - Tevras EP review

GOATSKULLT - Tevras EP

Self Released

My fondness for Finnish black metal never goes unrewarded. Over the decades it is each year I'll get to hear a new release by an old favorite or some act that's completely new to me. As far as this one goes it's the latter. GOATSKULLT is a three piece black metal act who hail from Helsinki. As far as their history goes the band has been around since 2017 and to their credit have put out one full length and a bunch of short form releases. So far this is their third EP in a row.

This is the first time I've heard GOATSKULLT but it captures so much from the Finnish black metal scene that they're more like an old favorite to the ears. First off the lyrics are sung in their native language which just adds to the hostility. The six cuts on here are a mixed bag of musical styles. You've got some cuts which are full on speed induced necro blackened face rippers. Then to break the cycle GOATSKULLT will slow down to a sinister crawl or a mid tempo pace giving into some doom type atmosphere with less harshness to the vocals and tremolo picked melodies.

Usually on an EP especially from a black metal act you're gonna get a one trick pony continuous type of vibe. Basically I'm talking about bands who give ya all fast head snappers or contemplation pieces. This band does what I like which is show the many facets of their style even on a small EP format. Great stuff.
