HIDEOUS MANGLEUES - All Your Friends Are Dead Reissue review

HIDEOUS MANGLEUES - All Your Friends Are Dead Reissue

Hells Headbangers Records

There's a lot to unpack here as far as personal history goes as well as other stuff. First off the original version of this CD came out in 1996 on Ecocentric Records. And for many Extreme Metal fans it's considered a unholy grail of Grind. I've got a copy albeit years after it came out and if memory serves me I think I got it "used". But there's some personal connection I have with HIDEOUS MANGLEUES.

Back in the fall of 1989 I moved back to Pennsylvania from North Carolina. I don't want to get into the "whys" about it. In 1990 I saw an ad in a fanzine for the HIDEOUS MANGLEUES demo All Your Friends Are Dead. It was a thirty-two song cassette tape. It was like three bucks so I sent em a five for postage. Maybe a month went by until it came in the mail I fuckin liked it a lot.

Now at that time I was also doing my own print fanzine, which was all about underground music, so I wrote to the band if they wanted to do an interview. I included a dozen questions to em in the package and that was it. Once again some weeks went by and the band sent me a package. In it was their interview answers as well as their new five song 7"er We Live... So yeah good times back in the 1990's.

For history's sake HIDEOUS MANGLEUS started out in 1989. They were from around Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They were a four piece act consisting of Sam Biles on vocals, someone named Feev on guitar, Joel Bonde on bass, and Curt Bonde on drums. Why were they not well known back then? Well when the mainstream music media and labels at that time pushed other acts then the underground ones get lost in the way.

But hey the cool thing is that HELLS HEADBANGERS, as always, delivers the goods when it comes to bands from the past who deserve recognition. Plus they put it out on CD as well as double vinyl. Musically HIDEOUS MANGLEUS were early ghouls of Grind who had a background in Punk fuckin Rock as well as Metal. I always thought they were a fun extreme sounding band. This is a soundtrack for insanity and getting reissued is one of the best things ever. Nuff Said!

KOSUKE HASHIDA - Moment Of Silence review

KOSUKE HASHIDA - Moment Of Silence

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

So it's after twelve o'clock at night and I'm listening to this new full length by KOSUKE HASHIDA which is Death Grind. Now the opening cut "The Cultist" was playing and I could hear it playing outside from my office which meant I left the outdoor speakers on. Now previously I've mentioned my outdoor speakers in past reviews. Basically I've got it set up where I can hear my stereo, TV and lamp-top outside via those speakers.

Earlier today I listening to a podcast and went outside to do some yard work prior to work but I wanted to hear the thing outside.I was running late so while getting ready for work I shut everything off but not totally. So when I decided to check out this new release by KOSUKE HASHIDA well the whole fuckin neighborhood did as well. Ah yeah, whoops on my part. Then again it ain't the first time I've fucked up with the speaker system. But those times might've been deliberate, hint, hint.

Be that as it may this is the third full length I've heard from KOSUKE HASHIDA. The guy does Japanese Death Grind like I do potato leek soup as a chef. He just has three ingredients and goes to blazes with them. Basically it's diabolical savage riffs, the drum work is insanely punishing and the vocals are flat out pissed the fuck off.

Three albums in three years is good but I won't say prolific since it's Death Grind. His albums are pretty much the same formula. I just so happen to like the formula. You get fourteen songs on this one which are under two minute short sharp shocks to the system. This album is easily his best of the three. How can he surpass this next year if he comes out with another? All I know is that if you're an Extreme Metal fanatic and want to get your day started. Fuck the coffee just play this. Nuff Said!

KOSUKE HASHIDA - Outrage review

KOSUKE HASHIDA - Outrage

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

I described this guy's debut album, Justifiable Homicide, from last year as "just short of seventeen minutes of audio Japanese murder mayhem". I'm sure it's still available on HPGD Productions for you to check out which you should for good reason.

This is Death Grind pure and simple. It's also another great album by Kosuke Hashida from Tokyo Japan , a one man manic when it comes to this type of music. In the past he played guitar for the Death Metal act WORLD END MAN. But nowadays, obviously, he's putting out solo albums where he performs all instruments.

On Outrage ya got just eleven savage cuts which is really full blown Death Grind with a little Thrash influence. To me it's all about Kosuke Hashida's fuckin guitar riffs which are so evil so crazy diabolical sounding. I mean this is something you wanna hear right before you leave your home to face the world whether it's going to work or to the store.

All I can say is stick this in my veins! Sick sadistic music is so fuckin cool especially when it sounds so raw. Kosuke Hashida's vocals come across as one pissed off individual who's covered in blood and has a few issues other than the obvious ones you can see.

So I have to tell ya this. I know I've got a crazy ass smile going on. Then I remember working with this one guy who was telling me about people in the hood who walk around with the "crazy face". Then he would give us this weird facial expresion and me plus the other co-workers would laugh our asses off. So while this album was blasting I went into the bathroom to look in the mirror and holy shit I've got the crazy face.

So yeah this second full length by Kosuke Hashida rules and it'll give ya the crazy face.

DRIPPING DECAY – Ripping Remains EP review

DRIPPING DECAY – Ripping Remains EP

Satanik Royalty Records

I remember checking out this band's debut full length, Festering Grotesqueries, last December. It was a damm good album albeit a bit too much of a homage to REPULSION, EXHUMED and AUTOPSY. But just to recap, DRIPPING DECAY are a four piece death grind act from Portland, Oregon.

Now supposedly while waiting for their album to be dropped last year the band went back into the studio to record five more originals plus a cover song "Trick or Treat" originally from 1984 by the Detroit, Michigan band HALLOWEEN. I'll give em props for the cover choice of obscurity.

But as far as the original cuts on here go I think the release title Ripping Remains gives away too much. Compared to their full length these songs sound like leftovers which were not fully developed. And that's despite what the band says in their release notes.

The fuckin irony is that after liking their debut I hoped their next release would contain some originality. Well here it is somewhat. Now I'm thinking their debut was a fuckin masterpiece. Hell it ranked #23 in my Top Forty Favorite releases of 2023. I should've ranked it higher.

But hey Ripping Remains is still a decent release. I mean how could you not like old school death grind? Plus they pull that old AUTOPSY style of lifting up the bass in the mix. Sure there's still some REPULSION and EXHUMED touches. Hell throw in TERRORIZOR worship influences as well. At this point does it really matter?

In the end this is not a bad release. But I'm hoping that in a year DRIPPING DECAY will come out with another full length that will be a death grind fuckin kick ass platter. I'm talking something that will blow away every extreme metal fan across the planet. I think they can do it and I'll be here waiting. Nuff Said.

DRIPPING DECAY - Festering Grotesqueries review

DRIPPING DECAY - Festering Grotesqueries

Satanik Royalty Records

As much as I give praise to death metal bands who hold true to the old ways. It's a guarantee I'll do the same for a death grind band who does the same. This band here came to my attention via a fan / reader / promo person of the blog saying "I can't believe you haven't written about this band. They're right up your extreme alley." One listen later and yeah that person was right.

This is the full length debut by DRIPPING DECAY a four piece act from Portland, Oregon. Musically it's fuckin death grind. The drum work reminds ya of REPULSION. The diabolic guitar riffs are a nod to EXHUMED. And the vocals are somewhat in the vein of AUTOPSY. With fourteen cuts all under four minutes and oozing of filth and B-movie horror revulsion ya gotta say hell yeah.

In the end Festering Grotesqueries is a great homage to death grind of the past. Ya gotta love the cover art as well. But next time try inserting some originality.

TERRA BUILDER - Solar Temple review

TERRA BUILDER - Solar Temple

Transcending Obscurity Records

When it comes to extreme metal I've always said that grind is number three behind black metal and death metal as far as genres go. I've been a fan of grind ever since it crawled out from the hardcore punk scene back in the late 80's. Over the decades I've listened to every type of grind style. So what we have here is a new German band performing death grind.

Solar Temple is the debut full length by this five piece act. It took me more than a few listens to get into this release. First off when it comes to death grind I have some all time favorites. So I had to make sure that my bias wouldn't go against these guys. Thankfully TERRA BUILDER do not sound like my favorites. But there sound is not too far off from some grindcore that emanates from a neighboring nation. No name dropping will be done on my part there.

Be that is may TERRA BUILDER do have an interesting death grind sound which is more on the dark side as opposed to violent brutality. Sure they've got some heavy handed riffs which kinda fall in with sludgey doom mixed with some modern death metal. Two standouts which define this band, aside from the foreboding atmosphere of the song structures, are the vocals and guitar soloing.

This band's vocalist has that classic roar of a beast singing style. Plus he mixes in some deep bestial growls that just come across as horrific. As far as the guitar soloing, what there is of it, you've got these clean sharp surgical strikes. It's totally eerie sounding to the point where it gives ya a chill. Oddly enough in the week I was checking this album out I was also watching real life account horrors in the woods videos. Irony?

Either way I like how TERRA BUILDER (aptly named by the way) have a sound that's more about horror than gore or manacle, fantasy surgical experimentation. Trust me, when you listen to the whole nine cuts on here you just might go check to see if all of your doors and windows are locked. But then when it comes to cosmic terror, there's no place to hide.

Years ago I heard what was called blackened grind and was not really impressed. On the other hand TERRA BUILDER really gives me the creeps. And that's something you don't expect from death grind. I mean what can this band do next to really freak the fuck out of ya? So when I say this album creeps up on ya. Ah yeah and in a sinister way. If a band's music can bring about emotions even if you don't care for those feelings then they're doing a great job.

KRULLUR - Dead Live! review

KRULLUR - Dead Live!

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

This release brings back cool memories from my past. Not that it's about this particular band. Instead it's the live format which brings back times when I'd blast tapes of live shows which were either from locals or bands from other places. The key part is the band are playing to locals and the crowd appreciation is obviously noted.

So who we have here is KRULLUR a death grind band who hail from Texas and started out back in 1990. Career wise during the 1990's they put out a handful of short form releases (some demos and a split release). In 2001 they finally put out a full length, Open Ass Surgery, which came out on Facepeel Records. Unfortunately that would be the last sounds from these Texans for a while.

In 2013 the band did make a comeback with a six song EP, Grounds for Termination. Once again some time would pass till 2016 when Horror Pain Gore Death Productions released their seven song Failure To Comply EP. So here we are with a live album from the band. Actually it's original members Jay Langston on drums and Marty Langston who's their lead guitarist. They're joined by bassist Brian Lowden who joined the band in 2015. Finally there's Kirk who joined the band in 2019 and handles guitar and vocals.

This album was recorded in the band's home town of Houston Texas. Musically it's 1990's nostalgia death grind at it's best. The vocals have that snarling punk rock aesthetic while the riffs, heavy as fuck bass lines and drums are ripping metal. The guitar leads are dive bomb lighting bolts. They also include some covers in their set. There's "Musclehead" by NAPALM DEATH which I can see. But they also cover "Kill Ugly Pop" by LIP CREAM which was a surprise.

In the end this is a damm great release. I mean I wanna see this band kick ass in a small local club. I'm too fuckin old for the slam pit action which should commence. I'll just be the old guy on the side with a evil smile on his face. Yeah this fuckin rules!

CARTILAGE - The Deader the Better review

CARTILAGE - The Deader the Better

Creator Destructor Records

Well the West Coast already has one premiere death grind act in EXHUMED. So I guess you can say that CARTILAGE are part of the extended family. This is the second album by this San Fran five piece act. There's eleven cuts on here. Personally I could've done without the techno intro. But they end the release with an IMPETIGO cover "Boneyard". So there you go.

Now with that said CARTILAGE do bring a raw savage style to the sub genre, aka: old school sounding. Sure the EXHUMED and CARCASS influences are here but they're not applying them completely. Instead of going for your throat this band wants to appeal to your sick senses. I like that kind of stuff.

So when you get songs like "Mallet Wielding Maniac", "Axe Scratcher" and "Slaughter Day at the Chopping Mall" ya wonder if they're laughing their asses off when recording. Musically the songs are all sick short sharp shockers with a mix of gruff and venomous vocals. So it's a fun sounding release for your typical sick minded dark humor loving maniac.

ORGAN TRAIL - Appetite For Dissection review

ORGAN TRAIL - Appetite For Dissection

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

Now this is what you call great death grind and worthy of blasting in the early AM hours. There are times I wish I could click the outdoor speakers (which are on the back deck) on at this time. Yeah then the cops would arrive and fine me. Yep extremely loud music is a No No. But gunfire a half mile away, that's OK.

Well enough of my semi residential living in the city stories. Here we have a band who hail from PA and Maryland plus they have a guy from NC. Basically ORGAN TRAIL, who started out in 2013, are a band made up of extreme metal veterans. Their singer is/was in a Virginia death grind band called MACERATED. Their drummer played with VISCERAL DISGORGE as well as RIVERS OF NIHIL.

Moving on their bassist is a local NC guy who plays in PATHOGENESIS. I saw them years ago and got one of their CDs. Finally their guitarist use to play in a Maryland DM band called ACRID. As crazy as it is I'm familiar with 3/4's of the band member's previous outings. Which is probably why I can appreciate how these four talented individuals came together to create a great fuckin album.

How great is it you ask? OK first off all the tropes for a great death grind sound are in place. The vocalist is a versatile maniac. He's got the gutturals, the growls and the psycho screams/howls. The guitarist is an all out assault specialist with the riffs. On certain times he's channeling early Swede Death sounds with cables leading to an electric chair. Other times the guy is pulling off PIG DESTROYER style riff carnage and yet with touches of groove. WTF?

As far as the rhythm section goes the bass playing on here is thick like a two by four to the head. And of course the drum work is flat out insane. So yeah this is what death grind in the modern era is supposed to be. Great intense sounds, a few sound-bites thrown in. The first one about being a passenger in a car is funny as fuck because I've been there.

So in the long run you've got a perfect album as far as death grind goes here in the states. There's fourteen cuts in less than twenty five minutes. And their last song is a FLESH PARADE cover "'Bout Had It". Who the fuck does a FLESH PARADE cover in 2022? Better yet who remembers FLESH PARADE, other than me? This band does and that's another killer reason why this is a perfect death grind release.

VOMIT SPELL - Self Titled review

VOMIT SPELL - Self Titled

F.D.A. Records

Take me back to the days of early Earache Records releases because it's 2021 and I don't care. This is the debut full length release by Germany's VOMIT SPELL. I give these guys props for wanting to push the whole early death grind thing. I mean they have a sound which takes some cool influences from well known acts from the past.

So if you're an old fuck like myself you'll listen to this and go cool. It takes me back to some good times. Were as if you're still a young fuck trophy then you'll think it's the greatest thing since ah streaming music (?)

Now even with all of that said the band have certainly progressed the style to modern times without sounding like total copycats. Yeah there's a death grind blitz with some added death doom dirge when they feel upon letting up on the punishment.

COVERED IN SORES - Civilian Casualties Compilation review

COVERED IN SORES - Civilian Casualties Compilation

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

COVERED IN SORES is a four piece death grind act from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. So did I ever mention the time I was in Philly long ago and watched two guys beat the living shit out of each other outside of a club over who made the best cheese steaks in South Philly? This was around Dec. 1989 but could've been Jan. 1990. I'm old and I forget sometimes. Strangely enough one of the guy's fighting was the drummer of a band I was there to see.

Which is why since then I called Philadelphia "Filthadelphia", later changed years later by the great RANCID VAT to "Hostile City, USA". And that's also why I can see a band like COVERED IN SORES coming from there. By the way are there any clubs or bars which allow a band like this to play? I mean this sounds like the musical equivalent to a riot. No not a mostly peaceful protest like some cable news reporter would've said about the crap going on last summer. This is a fuckin riot.

A riot in a good way that is. COVERED IN SORES started out a few years back. They put out three demos and have an EP this year. This release here features the band's demo material which is pretty damm cool. Sure the death / grind tagline is there on much of their songs. But they do have a foot firmly placed in the days when the whole grind genre came out of the late 80's hardcore scene.

I don't know if these guys are well read street hooligans or post grads from Temple University. Either way these demo cuts are well produced and could be a great album for 2021. I find this fuckin amazing. No I'm in my late fifties and I still find music like this EXCITING. This is the kind of band I'm still go see in a club.

Although I learned my lesson decades ago. You don't stand in front of the stage when a crazed grind band is performing. Because they'll hit ya with something be it a microphone, the mic stand, drum sticks a flying, a guitar to the face or the singer will kick ya. Yeah good times!

LIVE BURIAL - Unending Futility review

LIVE BURIAL - Unending Futility

Transcending Obscurity Records

So while I was listening to this the first time and checking out the band info I realized something important. Holy Shit, this is RAT FACED BASTARD 2.0. For those of you who don't know. RAT FACED BASTARD were/are a death grind act from the UK. They were around a few years back and produced a couple of EPs of decent death grind material.

So I'm looking at LIVE BURIAL's line-up and see that three band members were in RAT FACED BASTARD. Them being vocalist Jamie Brown, guitarist Rob Hindmarsh and drummer Matt Henderson. This band's line-up is followed up with bassist Lee Anderson who's also in a cool death metal act HORRIFIED. Finally there's guitarist Richard Codling.

Musically is where it gets wild. Imagine if you will some old school death doom meets up with cool death grind and then crashes into decent tech death in one of those stupid traffic circles. I hate those circles by the way because people don't know how to navigate through em. But musically this works very well.

The key words when it comes to this, the band's second release, are fuckin amazing. First off Jamie Brown has that blast furnace vocal style which is fuckin fantastic. Add to that there are times when he comes off as a true fuck up emitting sickness and bile. Next up are the leads which are like lightning sizzling the hell out of you. The riffs and song structures are just cool as fuck. Love the silence while the bass steps in to push the song(s) forward.

In the end all I can say is what the fuck! Listening to this is like setting yourself on fire then running out the door onto the street and hoping the professionals don't catch you.

VESICATION - Total Fecall review

VESICATION - Total Fecall

Horror Pain Gore Death

I was in the mood for something else tonight but this gem of a release came my way so what the hell. Earlier this year I said some good things about a compilation of older material put out by these Canadian filth mongers who are in total worship of IMPETIGO.

Total Fecall, this band's second full length makes me wanna vomit. The pig squealed vocals by new singer (?) Matt Hilden, killer fuckin bass lines and groove by Kimio Hatashita, trudging riffs by original guitarist Eddie Pharoah and the rock n roll plus pure metal drumming by Geoff Hodsman make this one pure puke ready.

Seriously I'm vomit ready by a band who are in total death grind mode to invoke an eruption of my stomach. Seriously (now there's a joke) the songs relating to tits were rocking. But my biggest laugh comes when the thought of the face of some loser listens to "Crouching Pink Hidden Stink". After than it's slam pit central with this old fucker giving you the fore-arm sandwich in the pit. Hell Fuckin Yeah!

LORD GORE - The Resickened Orgy review

LORD GORE - The Resickened Orgy

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

So no shit there I was in bed after fucking this chick. She's up going through my CD stacks looking for some other music to play. She sees one and says; "Oh my god you like IMPETIGO? They're really fucking offensive." So I tell her, "(name withheld) you're half naked in my bedroom wearing a CANNIBAL CORPSE shirt you got tonight (for free by the way) at the show and you wanna judge? Pick a damm CD and get back into bed!"

I mention IMPETIGO because LORD GORE are one of a small sick horde of acts who I refer to as The Children of IMPETIGO. For those of you who are out of the loop. LORD GORE are the sickest thing to ever come out of Portland, Oregon and that was the late 1990's. They did put out a couple of cool full lengths in the early 2000's much to many people's disgust. This release here is a double CD compilation of those first two albums (The Autophagous Orgy from 2002 and Resickened from 2004). Personally I believe this really needed to be put out.

I've always liked LORD GORE's second album better because there's some cool thrashy / hardcore cuts that mix in with their gore-grind approach. Their first album was total IMPETIGO homage which is not a bad thing at all. The first album has more soundbites in-between songs where as the second album is the band coming into their own set of filth. To me it's great music. If you're listening to this release and do not have a sick grin on your face then YOU HAVE A PROBLEM and you're probably lonely.

TREASONIST - Self Titled review

TREASONIST - Self Titled

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

Alright this one here got my interest simply because of the participation of vocalist Pete Ponitkoff. My thing with that is I've been a fan of his previous bands for a while. I've got a few BENUMB releases as well as AGENDA OF SWINE's only release Waves of Human Suffering. But for those of you out of the loop, here's some info.

BENUMB was a grindcore band from California in the 1990s. They grew out of the old hardcore scene and got respect from the metal community. Mainly because they got signed to Relapse. But by the 2000s the band had played out so Ponitkoff and drummer John Gotelli started AGENDA OF SWINE with some former members of TORTURED CONSCIENCE. Now like I mentioned earlier that band only put out one full length.

Which brings us to this one here. First off I gotta say Ponitkoff still has decent vocal chops for being fifty. I've seen a recent photo of em so it ain't from clean healthy living. Musically it's not AGENDA OF SWINE part two. This reminds me a lot of BENUMB's final stuff. Kinda like after they did the split with their Relapse label friends PIG DESTROYER but better.

On this release, which is at a less than fourteen minute running time (can you say EP?) TREASONIST hand in a type of death grind brawl. There's plenty of cool chugging riffs as well as a barrage of blast beating madness. They also allow for the death metal influences to flow in with some groove. But you know the bulk of this is head crushing grind worthy of loosing some blood to in the pit. I wonder if the new PIG DESTROYER release is this good?

VHS - The New Batch review

VHS - The New Batch

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions

Ya know in the 70's I grew up listening to a great three piece act from Canada. Bought all their albums and eventually saw em in concert three times. That band if you haven't figured it out yet was RUSH. Now VHS are also a three piece act who hail from Canada but are not like RUSH at all. In fact VHS sound like a punk version of IMPETIGO.

Not so strange is that Stevo from IMPETIGO adds some guest vocals on here. Actually there's a couple of guest vocalists on here as well like Dave Ingram of BENEDICTION/BOLT THROWER and HAIL OF BULLETS fame. OK that's impressive but they've also got Maniac Neil from the band BLOOD FREAK and Bob Shaw of EXISTENTIAL DISSIPATION. One would wonder how they can play live when they're missing all of these guests?

The first time I played this, it's only thirty minutes long, I stepped out back on the deck to have a smoke and think. I heard someone's kids screaming off in the distance. I'm sorry was I playing this too loud? So VHS make babies cry and hipsters puke (that latter idea is an educated guess.) Basically the band play gore obsessed punk/grind with some death metal influence.

Basically it's fourteen tracks sandwiched between a vocal intro and outro by someone imitating the Cryptkeeper from Tales from the Crypt. I never liked the TV show. The old comics were much better. But anyway comical relief runs wild on this gore-lite full length release which is their second since starting out in 2015. Here's a fun band to blast during a keg party, baptism or grandma's 90th birthday celebration which will be her last. But hey the song "Wrestlemassacre" rules.

HAEMOPHAGUS - Stream Of Shadows review

HAEMOPHAGUS - Stream Of Shadows

Selfmadegod Records

On this their third full length, Sicily's HAEMOPHAGUS make you an offer you can't refuse, that being fourteen cuts of horror obsessed death/grind. Seriously that's the best type of death/grind there is. The band is also not ashamed to let their influences proudly shine out. I'm talking about the likes of CARCASS, REPULSION and AUTOPSY. Seriously after a few listens to this you'll want fuck some shit, or persons, up.

HAEMOPHAGUS didn't just come out of nowhere with a bag of influences and a copy cat's dream. Like I said this is their third full length but these Sicilians have an extensive back catalog of short form releases, all splits, that go back a decade. Interested parties should check out their Necromantical Death Grind: The Early Years CD from 2016 which is a compilation of some of that material plus cuts from their first demo. You listen to that fucker and you can see/hear how this band honed their craft to a deadly edge.

Just by naming their influences should give you a packaged idea of what to expect on Stream Of Shadows. But for the sake of explaining everything I'll dissect. Yeah the drum work is phenomenal, the riffage and craft in song writing is pushed to a head snapping effect. The lead work is tight and of course the vocals have that aggro harshness to em. This more than just a fourteen song death/grind feast. It's perfection.

THE VOMITING DINOSAURS - Exoplanets review

THE VOMITING DINOSAURS - Exoplanets

Grimoire Records

Ok so when I first saw the promo email for this release I didn't know what to think. I mean with their band name and release title it could've been anything and maybe something I'd pass on. Yes I am doing that this time around. Anyways when I opened everything up, listened to the music then yeah this is cool. I know I've seen their label's name somewhere before and in a good place.

From what I gather THE VOMITING DINOSAURS, from Richmond, VA, are a metal/punk trio, with flourishes of death grind, that came out right around the time I put the blog on semi-retirement. They released their debut full length, Eat the Homeless, in 2011. I would've killed to review that one. Since then the band has put out a handful of small format releases and another full length, Worship the Porcelain God, in 2015 also on Grimoire Records.

This new one is an EP around fifteen minutes in length. The reason for that is even though there are nine songs listed, a few are quick instro soundbites/filler. What songs there are on here tend to be quick punk metal rippers with titles like "Circumbinary" and "Ice Giant" which has some grind to it. The song "Lava Planet" is actually a long cut that's pure death grind, very cool and better than the song of a video of their's I checked out. Come on, zombies, please?

If this release had more songs similar to the style displayed on "Lava Planet" then I'd think it was cool as fuck. Unfortunately that's not the case here. Maybe next time, actually I'm hoping for it. Maybe I'll get to see these guys play locally sometime, if they haven't already. I work most nights.

NEKRO DRUNKZ - Lavatory Carnage review

NEKRO DRUNKZ - Lavatory Carnage

MORIBUND RECORDS

The children of IMPETIGO have returned. Actually that's not exactly true since there has been a plethora of bands influenced by the Bloomington, Illinois maniacs ever since their Horror of the Zombies full length was unleashed upon us in 1992. The NEKRO DRUNKZ from Oregon are just one of the latest to spew the same type of sleazy death, thrash and grind. Also they (aka: Disgustor and Crystal Seth) have been doing so for the past seven years with various full lengths, splits and yeah, live releases on cassette which are highly collectible I might add.

This duo of disgust is not new to me. I got suckered into picking up one of their past releases just cause of the cover art. Speaking of which, the cover art on here, by Matt Stikker, is exceptional. But anyways on here the duo's latest full length you've got a decent 18 songs of pure sick death grind filth. Let me add that this ain't your typical brutal shtick. The musicianship is first rate, imagine CARCASS (ok that's pushing it so how about GENERAL SURGERY.) going this route and you've got NEKRO DRUNKZ down. You've got these filth coated death grind riffs with duel vocals (Disgustor doing the low toned death voice while Crystal Seth adds some high pitch squeals, shrieks and vomiting blood sounds) add to that the dive bomb like sharp solos by Crystal Seth that slice through the murky depths the songs trudge though.

Yeah I'm a sucker for bands like this. Then again I've been a fan of IMPETIGO and MACABRE for ages so it goes without saying yeah this is a fantastic release. But of course since it's on Moribund it has to be good. Yes I'm bias and you can go fuck yourself.
