SOLIUM - Urwerk EP review

SOLIUM - Urwerk EP

Old Temple Records

SOLIUM is a blackened side project by THRONEUM's The Great Executor. I won't continue on with his real name. I will say his main band THRONEUM have been around for two decades and are very prolific as far as releases go. Oh yeah and they're kinda cool. Prior to this EP there was a full length, The Styx Is Witching Me, which came out it 2017. I never heard it so fuck me running.

As far as this solo project here goes at least I can say it does not completely remind me of THRONEUM. Honestly this sounds like a raw second wave BM demo. There's four cuts as well which is demo style. Basically it's something that could've appeared twenty-five years ago and the worshipers of the BM underground back then would yell "kvlt" and throw the horned fist in your face.

For starters the vocals are like rumblings from deep within a cave. I would say dungeon but caves have some echo quality. As far as the music it's pretty amazing with it's primarily slow rumbling quality. There's touches of tremolo picked speed here and there. The drum work has that ancient quality and hey there's some actual bass.

If The Great Executor's goal was to put out a black metal nostalgia release then he did it perfectly with these four cuts. It's infectious as fuck with a diabolical tone of atmosphere. Add to that a whole embodiment of evil. This is black metal perfection created by an expert of the genre.
