WITCHKISS - Transformation EP review

WITCHKISS - Transformation EP

Self Released

WITCHKISS are a three piece sludgey doom act from upstate New York. I know of this band from writing about their full length debut, The Austere Curtains of Our Eyes, which came out in 2018. That one was decent as far as having sonic control on the genre standards while adding atmospheric texture to some of their cuts.

Like I said it was decent but generally there are a ton of similar bands out there. Something like that gets lost in the pack, good or not. But on here the band seems to have made a slight adjustment. They still use duel vocals (male & female). They've mastered the haunting airy vibe and still inject in some heavy handed crush sounds with the big fuckin thud.

Personally this comes across like the contents of a YOB and WINDHAND sandwich. On that note I like it and you genre fans should as well. There are way too many clones of the name dropped acts I just mentioned out there. Being inbetween is a good touch.

Another thing I like about this WITCHKISS release is that it's short form. Here they lay down two great songs. And if you get it from their Bandcamp site you'll receive a bonus-track. But anyway my main complaint with their debut was it's length. This style is exciting in short bursts albeit eight to ten plus minute songs. In the end it's great stuff.
