HELLFROST AND FIRE - Fire, Frost and Hell review

HELLFROST AND FIRE - Fire, Frost and Hell

Transcending Obscurity Records

Regular readers of this blog (and frankly who isn't) will know I'm a huge fan of David Ingram. I mean he is the voice to the English death metal institution BENEDICTION. Let's not forget the band's killer reunion album Scriptures from 2020. But Ingram has been busy with some side bands as well that I've been a fan of. Most notably is DOWN AMONG THE DEAD MEN which he's been part of for a few years now.

Here we have Dave's latest project HELLFROST AND FIRE. Along with Dave on vocals you've got Rick DeMusis handling guitars/bass and Travis Ruvo on drums. Musically this is a simple run through of old school death metal brutality. Dave roars along like an angry beast. DeMusis delivers with some cool albeit familiar sounding riffs. His solos are well done without over doing it. Ruvo's drumwork is adequate.

This ten song outing is a mixed bag of slow plodding ragers and mid paced groove numbers. I've gotta say "Black Secrets in the Splintering Walls", "Meridian's Acquisition" and "The Lost King and the Heir Apparent" are my favorite cuts off of this release. The bottom line here is if you're a David Ingram fan then this is a mandatory release to get.
