MORTUUS CADAVER - Cemetery Debauchery review

MORTUUS CADAVER - Cemetery Debauchery

Prior Satanae Production

So for decades now I've made it obviously clear that I'm a huge fan of Polish death metal. Mainly because I think VADER are one of the greatest bands of the genre. But hey they've got so many cool sounding bands. Now if you played this release and asked me where they were from I would not say Poland.

MORTUUS CADAVER who hail from that great nation do not sound like their countryman. Actually they sound like they came from somewhere in the US Midwest. Either way this is great fuckin sounding death doom. This is also the band's debut full length. MORTUUS CADAVER is a three piece act who started out a few years ago. The band members also share membership in another death doom act IMPURE DECLARATION.

So musically you've got six original cuts and a cover of NUNSLAUGHTER's "Raid the Convent". Good choice for a cover and they do it well since I am a NUNSLAUGHTER fan. but sound-wise MORTUUS CADAVER are all about the mid tempo grooves, violent sounding riffage and slow dirges. Their vocalist and bassist (who you can actually hear well) has that sick burnt throat sound. He'll even throw in a scream or two.

There are no guitar solos, atmospheric breaks or production foolery. This is as basic and raw as it gets for old school death metal and I like it a lot. I would've liked some dive bomb type soloing but instead there's a few bass heavy moments. All in all a amazing release with killer cover artwork to boot.
