EMPHERIS - The Return Of Derelict Gods review

EMPHERIS - The Return Of Derelict Gods

Old Temple

For some reason I feel like I've heard this band before. Now that's not surprising since this Polish act has been around since the early 2000s and have a ton of releases out in either short form (EPs and Splits) to a couple of full lengths. Speaking of which The Return Of Derelict Gods is the band's third full length to date over their long career.

EMPHERIS are a five piece blackened thrash act, emphasis on the blackened part. Their vocalist reminds me of a cross between Don of the Dead from NUNSLAUGHTER and Mille from KREATOR. The guy sorta has that harsh singing style as if he's on fire. Musically the band also has some NWOBHM influence which pops up once in a while through these ten cuts. But of course it's the fast thrash style which dominates. As far as that matters it's done well.

EMPHERIS does not fall into the generic style which has become modern blackened thrash. I'll be nice and won't mention a producer's name who has become synonymous with carbon copying bands. Instead I'll say this has it's raw sides of the genre. Add to that some more explosive second wave BM surprises via good rhythms, tremolo picked runs and dueling blast beated segues. All in all it's definitely better that your average stuff and worth checking out to relieve boredom.
