Even over forty years later the name BERKOWITZ is hard to forget. California in 1969 had Manson and in the summer of 1976 to the summer of 77 New York City had David Berkowitz. A little personal history for ya. I was a kid living in New Jersey in the 70's. We lived right across the Hudson from Manhattan. I remember the whole story about Son of Sam. He ended up killing six people and claimed to be obeying the orders of a demon which possessed the neighbor's dog. Of course that story ended up to be bullshit. In the end he was just a nobody who wanted notoriety and got it.
So does any of that have to do with this band from Virginia Beach, Virginia? I haven't figured that out yet. BERKOWITZ are a three piece gore grind act that started out in 2017. As a three piece they're a guitarist who's also in a Virginia band called MURDER. Also there's a vocalist plus a drummer both from a now defunct Virginia band called THRONE OF BOTIS. That's right no bass player. As far as this sounds musically well they do follow a genre tradition.
BERKOWITZ are the epitome of old school gore grind. I'm talking about a short shock to your senses as well as your tolerance. This is pre-pig squealing vocal type of stuff with some actual cool riffs that remind ya of NAPALM DEATH in their early days. But of course they learned it all from REPULSION so there you go. A world gone to madness is more like it. Look you're a short drive away so please play Raleigh, NC. You'll piss off most people but I'll be the guy up front with the grey bear smiling.
