MORILD - Sa kom morket review

MORILD - Sa kom morket

Indisciplinarian

This band hails from Denmark. My apologies to King Diamond but a few of your countrymen found some late 2000's post black metal CDs in a used bin and decided to copy em. There are three bad metal genres I never want to see revisited. They are nu-metal, death core and shoegaze black metal. That later one is what we have evidenced here.

Seriously years ago when a slew of acts started this experiment I gave it a fair shake. I enjoyed a few releases but they were the ones that were still within the blackened template. But then the bands washed the black metal away with swirling MY BLOODY VALENTINE and COCTEAU TWINS bullshit. It's no wonder that the non-metal hipster audiences swooned for it.

Which brings us here to the type of so-called atmospheric black metal only a hipster could love. I noticed in the promo they're not using the shoegaze genre tag anymore. Not surprisingly since it generates the same ill will that NSBM would. So the bottom line here is atmosphere, ambiance, guitar swells and tortured screams does not qualify this as black metal. More like Danish hippies trying to get their foot in the door of a party house that doesn't want them.
