With a name like WARFIST it better be damm good. Actually this is not my first exposure to the band. I learned about this Polish blackened thrash duo a year ago while checking out their split with EXCIDIUM. Also WARFIST are not new. They've been pummeling their native land since 2004 and have a decent size discography to thumb through.
Now like I mentioned this is blackened thrash, a genre which I'm very critical of for good reasons. For the past 3 or 4 years there's been way too many bands mixing EXODUS meets MOTORHEAD riffs, add some harsh blackened vocals and getting the same guy to produce it. The end result is generic and boring. WARFIST doesn't do that which is why they're far better than the generic crap which passes for blackened thrash.
WARFIST have found a nice vein to mine and do it very well. They like VENOM and if that bothers you then maybe you need to be somewhere else. Also I don't know if they're aware of it but these guys do remind me of old late 80's hardcore with simple yet chunky riffs. Or you can call it speed metal, whatever it's just a cool vibe that reminds me of circle pit action from long ago. Along with all of that they do add some cool rock leads that slice in here and there. Real guy filthy style vocals and the solid drum work round everything out.
WARFIST are not trying to win you over with metal's technical proficiency as far as fast music goes. Instead, and here's why I really like it, these guys are producing raw fuckin in your face music that grabs hold of you and makes you do crazy things in public. I can imagine WARFIST playing a big venue and parts of the crowd are involved in a huge circle pit going insane. It's just fuckin exciting and gratifying to blast this one. Polish Power!
