PREZIR - As Rats Devour Lions reviews

PREZIR - As Rats Devour Lions

Godz Ov War Productions

Here's a debut album by a band from one of the most metal cities in America that being Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yes it's true Milwaukee is more metal than New York City, Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, etc. If you are old enough to know or just aware of US metal history than you'll agree.

Now if that doesn't earn the horned fist salute then this band also has two former members of SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY. They're a long time Midwestern black metal act. One that in my not so humble opinion has been severely overlooked throughout their history. Check out their 2015 full length Family Tomb and get your head adjusted. After that invest your hard earned cash on their catalog instead of buying over priced bundles from big labels.

Speaking of which this debut full length by PREZIR is not far off the mark from what SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY has been doing over the past few years. There are some exceptions of course. Yes it's still black metal out the wazoo. At times there's some modern thrash elements thrown in. Thankfully for that because I'm sick of the packaged Joe Grind version. The thrash parts add some tech precision especially the firey leads which is a breath of decent air.

As far as the whole song package goes this is USBM at it's finest as far as conviction and execution. Sound wise PREZIR fit somewhere between KULT OV AZAREL and early ABSU. But then again that's where I placed SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY in the past. Basically there's more enphasis on fierce dynamics than atmosphere. Which is what USBM was all about in it's early days.

You youngsters (and hiptard douchebags) need to understand. Here in the states back in the day we didn't have Scandinavian landscapes, Satanism or the big three of the BM first wave to lean on or inspiration. So bands just took the black metal touch and created music which was worthy of beating the shit out of people. That's why I like this a lot then again I'm bias because of the SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY link. Be that as it may I will say that PREZIR's debut makes USBM great again.
