1914 - The Blind Leading the Blind review

1914 - The Blind Leading the Blind

Welcome to World War One again courtesy of the Ukrainian band 1914. Now I do like war themed metal especially the type that deals directly with historical events. As far as WW1 goes GOD DETHRONED came out with a trilogy years ago which I found to be incredible. Now other than national identity one thing is obvious and that's 1914 actually have themselves photographed wearing that era's military uniforms. Just take a look below.

I wonder do they wear that stuff on stage? OK I checked a live performance on Youtube and they don't. So you know the theme now as far as the music goes this is melodic death metal with touches of doom and all blackened. The vocals are of that raspy variety meets a bellowing grunt mode on the doomy side of things.

As far as this release goes I don't think it meets the standards set before them as a band or a release of this type as well as the horrific events of World War One. The melodic doom parts might give way to haunting touches that are post war effects. The sad samples do nothing but conjure up cheapness. In the end I'm thinking maybe these guys should pick another war closer to home or a police action.
